Venture Crew 1832 is Sponsored by the Sugar River Valley Pheasants Forever with help from the Argyle Rod & Gun Club and the South Central Wisconsin Archers. Our first major activity was being part of the first annual Argyle Rod & Gun Club Youth Fishing Trip. Nearly 30 youth were involved in this weekend adventure near Kewaunee WI.
5 Charter Boats plus 2 additional boats were needed to get everybody out. Everyone came away with at least one nice King Salmon or Rainbow. The largest was a 27# King Salmon caught by Ana.
Here are some of the catch off two of the Charters Trips with my cousin Butch at Thunder Buck Charters
Venture Crew Chief, Nate, guides a 4 year old King into Butches net, then proudly shows it off in the early morning sunlight.
Venture Crew 1832 meetings are held the first Sunday evening of the month at 7pm, at the Argyle Rod & Gun Club. We also meet on summer Wednesday evenings to prepare food for the Argyle Rod & Gun Club's Sporting Clays League which ends up being our main fund raiser for our Crews outdoor activities and the crew members individual scout accounts. Come on out and join in the adventure,
The crew is a Conservation based Shooting Sports Venture Crew (Named to commemorate the Battle of Bloody Lake during the Black Hawk Indian Wars which took place in 1832 a couple miles down Pecatonica River from our main meeting places.) Having a Shooting Sports Venture Crew allows us to do many fishing, hunting, and other outdoor activities beyond the scope of conventional Boy or Girl Scouting.
The Crew is open to Boys and Girls between the age of 14 and 21.
We participated in a "Learn to Hunt" Pheasant Youth Hunt on last Saturday October 4th and will again this next Oct, 2nd.
DNR "Learn to Hunt" Turkey Youth Hunt the first weekend in April
This summer our main venture activity was a trip to northern Wisconsin where we camped near the Wolf River. For the first time this year water levels were low and the only segments that could be run were the very exciting stretches of the Wolf in the Menominee Indian Reservations. Here Kari tries to pull Tiffany back into the raft after dumping in the Upper Dells of the Wolf. We had a few good bruises, lost a pair or two of glasses and sunglasses, swatted a few Horseflies and got a little tanner. We came back tired, but with lots of pictures and memories.
Several crew members attempt to get rid of water in their rafts after going over Sullivan Falls in the back round. Several new crew members have joined recently and we are now truly Coed with nearly equal numbers of girls and guys.
On Sunday morning several of the members of the crew went horse back and some went trail bike riding while others fly fished on the Wolf and caught several Small Mouthed Bass
Our next event will be "Learn to Hunt" Pheasant youth hunt/Scouting Camporee out at the AR&GC and Savanna Springs. For more information call: 608-325-4606 or E-mail: mailto:savanasp@tds.net
